The sound of one hard drive crashing

Wow, I've heard all of those over the years, mostly #3. Occasionally you can take the drive and freeze it, and it will work again for a while. Or if it has all the pictures of the guy's kids and his wife is about to divorce him since he did not back them up, it goes to a drive recovery house.
