MovableType comment spam
I originally switched to MT3 because I was having problems with my MT2 installation locking up due to comments spam. Looks like the problems may not be solved with MT3. I guess I've just been lucky so far.Posted by ekr at December 18, 2004 10:34 PM | Filed under:

Hmm, I could make some snarky comments about this not being solved in MT3 but then the "Note: comments take a little time to show up. You don't need to press submit twice." at the bottom of the page does it for me.
The easy fix is to just change the name of the script(s) that handle(s) comments: that will break the spambots. But that doesn't help the slow rebuilds, even if it works. I don't know why your WordPress experiment didn't work out: I've been happy with it so far.

I'm not sure why you would want to be snarky.... I certainly never claimed that MT3 was perfect. I just found it less bad than WordPress. I readily concede that both suck... it's software.
My problem with WordPress, as I indicated somewhere or other, is that the source code and configuration data are so mixed that I found it impossible to get what I wanted without doing substantial source code surgery, thus making any future source upgrades extremely difficult.

Hmm... if you made the WordPress changes in a configurable way and contributed them back to the project, you'd not only be able to upgrade smoothly in the future; you'd also be helping out anyone else who wants to get away from MT.

Yeah, I'll get right on that.

I got the impression that you had already done most of the footwork to fix things up... at least, your statement above certainly seems to imply as much. Is it more complicated than that?
