Takeru Kobayashi, the Lance Armstrong of professional eating [*]:

Kobayashi ate 53 3/4 hot dogs in 12 minutes to win his 6th straight Nathan's hot dog eating contest. Imagine eating 53 3/4 hot dogs in 12 hours...

Yeah, but Joey Chestnut really closed the gap between 1st and 2nd this year. Only 1 3/4 dogs off the pace. Of course, I imagine the marginal difficulty embodied in those 1 3/4 could be emetically high.

Hey, Eric, it's what he's got, you know? You are a world-famous crypto-geek. This is what Kobayashi-san has to be famous for.

Also also, here's a comment on this from the Huffington Post:

What kind of an entertainment-driven "hey look at that" carnival-like "news" culture do we live in where a bunch of two-legged pigs eating fat and salt-laden hot dogs by the dozens are garnering all this ink and online coverage for some championship hot-dog eating contest while at the same time...

Hundreds of thousands of children throughout much of the Third World will die of malnutrition this week?
