The best reason yet to oppose global warming

Poison Ivy grows faster as the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere increases, according to a study conducted by researchers at Duke University. The researchers simulated what the environment of the earth might be like in 2050 if the levels of carbon dioxide continue to grow at the current trajectory. (Increasing CO2 and other greenhouse gases into the atmosphere raises the earth's temperature, according to most scientists).

Under the simulated conditions, the poison ivy plants grew 150 percent faster than plants in an ordinary environment. Other expected consequences of global warming include more severe dry spells in the western U.S. and lower temperatures in Northern Europe. [*].

Time to stock up on prednisone.

As I understand it, a very large number of plants--including most of those grown for food--flourish wonderfully in a high-CO2 atmosphere. I wonder how long it took these researchers to come up with an argument why this might be a bad thing...

(Then again, why worry about a little poison Ivy when we're in danger of losing an entire region of the earth?)

EKR packs Prednisone... but Scott packs Zanfel. I ended up catching the Mother of All Poison Oak Cases while hiking in Big Sur two years ago, and I was really desperate for solutions.

I ended up going to the ER in the middle of the night and came out with a Prednisone prescription, but it didn't do a heck of a lot.

On the other hand, Zanfel is really expensive ($60/oz!), but it works *immediately* and it's well worth it. It's available over the counter, but sometimes challenging to find.

It didn't "cure" the poison oak for me, but it did make the sensation go away 100% for ~6 hours at a time... which was well worth the price. (I admit that I had some pretty deep scrapes, so maybe it would have eliminated the problem if I had less-deep scrapes.)

When I read their web site, I was expecting snake oil, but it actually worked for me and it allowed me to sleep at night and function during the day.

Nothing we can do about what is going on. It is a part of the sign of the times. We are living in the last days fellas.
